So we had two international female wrestlers in this video. One representing India and the other representing Russia. It was during an international event when they first crossed paths. The Indian wrestler lost the match. For most athletes, the story would have ended there with a handshake and mutual respect. Instead, the aftermath took an unexpected turn. The Russian wrestler continued to taunt her Indian opponent, turning a sporting rivalry into something personal.
The Indian wrestler openly challenged the Russian, “I am a wrestler who has grown up wrestling in an akhada. I lost the match because I was a replacement for my injured friend. If you really think you can defeat me , maybe we can settle it out in the akhada”.The Russian replied , “Excuses are for the weak . I will defeat you there just like I have defeated you here”.
Weeks later, the Russian wrestler came to India for a visit. The reality is just like any wrestler, she didn’t shy away from the challenge that was thrown at her. Now, the battle moves from the international arena to the heart of Indian wrestling tradition.
